Ashurbanipal’s library included the texts of many stories from across his kingdom written on clay tablets. Whilst today is widely known, lesser known stories offer equally vivid insights into the cultural DNA of ancient Assyria. In this storytelling performance based on texts from Ashurbanipal’s library now in the British Museum collection, the Zipang Mesopotamian storytellers – Fran Hazelton, June Peters and Badia Obaid – breathe new life into these long-lost stories. The performance is open to all audiences, of all ages and backgrounds. Please note, one short story is told in Arabic.
